The Coco Coir & D.E. method has been preforming very well for us over the past couple of years. We tested doing this several ways and this one preformed the best so far.

You start by soaking the cutting for 24hrs this is followed by a 10-minute soak in Physan 20 mix diluted according to the cleaning recipe found on the bottle (You can get Physan 20 of Amazon.)

Make a set of 2” scores with a knife on the bottom end of each cutting, they should be made to expose (but not remove) the cambium immediately after being dipped in DipNGrow. DipNGrow solution should mixed according to softwood (weakest) concentration. (DipNGrow can be found on Amazon.)

Ambient temperature and humidity tracked by digital thermometer. If the ambient temperature is below about 75 degrees Fahrenheit. You will need a heat mat and a thermostat YOU MUST HAVE A THERMOSTAT if you use a heat mat. Make sure you check your mat regularly, never let the temperature go over 80 degrees Fahrenheit.

Stick your cuttings in a 32-ounce clear cup covered (coco coir only) with PressNSeal film. Heat mats set at 80 F. Light level should be low (I will post a light meter reading later). This is a picture of how they should look once you are done with this step.

After about 3 weeks you should start to see roots. After you can see the roots, move them to an area with a good bit of light. Once the cuttings have broken bud it’s time to remove the plastic from the top of the cups. Only now should you start to water the plants, and only if they are dry with VERY little moister whatsoever. Make sure you bottom water only and do not immerse the cup.

Once the cutting has well-formed roots all around the pot you can up pot.

Note: For beginners you can skip steps like soaking the cuttings and dipping in Dip’N’Grow but your success may decrease.
